Fosroc Dekguard E2000 is a high-performance elastomeric acrylic protective coating system for reinforced concrete. It bridges substrate cracks and provides an excellent barrier against carbon dioxide, chloride ions, oxygen, and water. Water-based, breathable, UV-resistant, and low dirt pick-up. Suitable for all exposed concrete structures including coastal environments.
Product Overview
The Dekguard E2000 system comprises two components: a penetrating silane-siloxane primer (Dekguard WB Primer) and a single-component crack-accommodating pigmented topcoat (Dekguard E2000), both ready for immediate site use. The primer is based on acrylic resin and silane-siloxane in a water-based carrier, producing a chemically-bound hydrophobic barrier that inhibits water and waterborne contaminants while consolidating and stabilising porous substrates. The topcoat is based on a special pure aliphatic acrylic polymer, providing excellent crack accommodation and low dirt pick-up. Available in a wide range of colours.
Key Features
- Crack bridging — Accommodates substrate cracking to maintain protective integrity
- Anti-carbonation — Excellent barrier to carbon dioxide diffusion, preventing concrete carbonation and reinforcement corrosion
- Chloride barrier — Very high reduction in chloride ion penetration (per manufacturer), suitable for coastal and high-salt environments
- Breathable waterproofing — Allows water vapour to escape from the structure while blocking external moisture ingress
- Low dirt retention — Special acrylic polymer formulation minimises dust and dirt adhesion
- UV resistant — Resistant to ultra-violet light effects, suitable for long-term outdoor exposure
- Versatile application — Suitable for brush, roller, or spray application
Applications
- Exposed reinforced concrete structure protection (bridges, building facades, etc.)
- Concrete protection in coastal and saline environments
- Surface protection coating after concrete repair
- Concrete structures requiring crack-bridging capability
- Protective topcoat used with the Renderoc repair system
Packaging
Dekguard E2000: 20L drums. White. Used with Dekguard WB Primer (sold separately).
Important Notes
- Primer should not be applied when substrate/air temperature is low and falling
- Topcoat should not be applied when substrate temperature is too low
- Avoid frost exposure within the first 48 hours after application
- Do not apply in windy conditions to prevent early dust adhesion
- Allow sufficient drying time before rain exposure
- Do not apply when relative humidity is excessively high
- Not suitable for areas subject to ponded water
- Substrate must be dry, clean, with blowholes and pitting pre-filled with fairing coat
- Shelf life is twelve months in unopened packs stored in cool, dry conditions away from frost
- For detailed application methods, coverage rates, and technical parameters, please refer to the official product data sheet
FAQ
Does Dekguard E2000 require a primer?
Yes. The complete Dekguard E2000 system includes applying one coat of Dekguard WB Primer first, allowing it to dry fully, then applying the Dekguard E2000 topcoat. The primer penetrates and consolidates the substrate, forming a hydrophobic barrier that ensures the overall system's protective performance.
Can Dekguard E2000 be applied over repaired concrete?
Yes. Dekguard E2000 is an ideal post-repair protective topcoat. It can be applied directly over Renderoc repair mortars (when used with Nitobond AR curing membrane, no removal is needed), while also providing anti-carbonation and chloride protection for unrepaired areas and giving the entire surface a uniform decorative finish.
