Summary:

Nitoflor Hardtop is a Fosroc monolithic surface hardening compound applied by the dry-shake method to fresh concrete floors. It bonds integrally with the base concrete to provide an extremely abrasion-resistant surface. Composed of specially selected silica-based hard-wearing aggregates, Portland cement and special additives. Non-metallic aggregate will not rust when wet. Factory-blended ready to use with no additives required on site. Suited for all industrial areas subjected to heavy traffic. Singapore Green Building Product certified (per manufacturer).

Product Overview

Nitoflor Hardtop is a quality-controlled, factory-blended powder surface hardening compound consisting of specially selected hard-wearing aggregates (silica-based), Portland cement and special additives to improve workability. Applied by the dry-shake method to fresh, wet concrete surfaces, it is easy to trowel in. It cures monolithically with the base concrete to produce a dense, non-porous surface that is extremely hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant. Monolithic cure eliminates problems typically associated with thin screeds such as curling, shrinkage and cracking. Available in natural concrete grey as standard; brick red, green and off-white available on request for large orders.

Features

  • Ready to use — factory pre-blended, no site additives required
  • High abrasion resistance — silica-based aggregate with high hardness significantly improves concrete floor wear resistance (per manufacturer)
  • Monolithic bond — bonds integrally with fresh concrete, no delamination risk
  • Dense and oil-resistant — high-density, low-porosity surface resists oils and grease
  • Colour options — available in multiple colours to improve working environment
  • Non-metallic aggregate — will not rust when wet
  • Non-flammable — meets non-combustibility requirements (per manufacturer)

Applications

  • Power stations and heavy industry plant floors
  • Agricultural building floors
  • Distillation plants and laboratories
  • Abattoir floors
  • Warehouse floors and logistics centres
  • Loading bays and vehicle trafficking areas
  • All industrial floor areas subjected to heavy traffic

Certifications

  • Singapore Green Building Product (SGBP 5045) (per manufacturer)

Application Guidelines

  • Base concrete — lay and compact per good concrete practice; ensure full compaction at edges and corners
  • Application timing — begin when concrete has stiffened to the point where light foot traffic leaves an imprint of about three to six millimetres; bleed water should have evaporated but surface should retain a wet sheen
  • Two-stage application — broadcast approximately two-thirds of material first; after moisture absorption, float with trowel; immediately apply remaining one-third at right angles, then float again
  • Final finishing — power-float with blades once the floor has stiffened sufficiently
  • Edge reinforcement — give additional treatment to edges and saw-cut joint locations prone to heavy wear
  • Curing — proper curing is essential; Concure curing membrane recommended

Packaging

25 kg bag

Notes

  • Not suitable for areas exposed to acids and their salts
  • Do not apply to concrete containing calcium chloride
  • Site trial recommended for coloured floors to assess colour variations
  • Do not add water to the surface during application — this will impair finish quality
  • Application by an approved Fosroc specialist applicator is recommended
  • Contains cement powders — wear gloves and eye protection during application
  • Shelf life: twelve months in original undamaged packaging; may be reduced in high temperature/humidity (per manufacturer)
  • For detailed application methods, coverage rates and technical parameters, refer to the official product data sheet

FAQ

How is Hardtop applied?

When fresh concrete has set to the point where footprints leave an impression of about three to six millimetres, broadcast the powder evenly across the surface. After the powder absorbs moisture from the concrete, float it in with a trowel. Apply in two stages (approximately two-thirds first, then one-third at right angles) for even coverage. Finish with power float blades and apply curing compound.

How does it differ from epoxy floor coatings?

Hardtop is a dry-shake hardener applied during concrete placement that bonds monolithically with the base — suited for new floors. Epoxy floor coatings (such as Nitoflor FC100) are applied to existing concrete surfaces. Use Hardtop for abrasion-resistant treatment of new floors; use epoxy coatings for renovation of existing floors or where chemical resistance is required.
