Size
Summary:

Monocure 50 is a solvent-free, water-based spray-on concrete curing membrane by Sika Ronacrete. Prevents rapid water loss from freshly placed concrete and mortar. Curing efficiency >75% (BS7542:1992). Can receive cementitious renders after 24 hours with no adverse effect on paint adhesion. Coverage 5.0-6.5 m²/litre.

Monocure 50 — Water-Based Spray-On Concrete Curing Membrane

Monocure 50 is a solvent-free, water-based concrete curing membrane applied by low-pressure spray to freshly placed concrete and mortar surfaces to prevent rapid evaporation of water. It effectively reduces cracking and crazing caused by moisture loss, facilitates cement hydration, improves surface hardening, and reduces dusting. Monocure 50 replaces traditional damp hessian or polyethylene film curing methods. Specifically formulated to allow overcoating with cementitious renders after 24 hours with no detrimental effect on subsequent paint finishes.

Key Features

  • Water-based, solvent-free formula
  • Curing efficiency >75% (tested to BS7542:1992)
  • Can receive cementitious render overcoat after 24 hours
  • No adverse effect on subsequent paint adhesion
  • Low VOC (28 g/L)
  • Easy spray application
  • Milky white liquid, dries clear

Typical Applications

  • Curing freshly placed concrete
  • Curing mortars and screeds
  • Curing renders and other cementitious construction
  • Immediate curing of shuttered concrete after formwork removal

Why Choose Monocure 50?

  • Replaces wet curing: Spray-applied membrane replaces hessian or PE film, saving significant labour
  • Overcoatable: Renders can be applied after 24 hours without affecting subsequent paint adhesion
  • Effective curing: >75% curing efficiency prevents surface cracking and dusting
  • Low VOC: Water-based and solvent-free at just 28 g/L VOC

Technical Specifications

PropertyValue
FormulationWater-based, solvent-free curing membrane
Curing Efficiency>75% (BS7542:1992)
VOC28 g/L (USEPA Method 24)
Application Temperature>5°C

Application Method

  1. Apply Monocure 50 by low-pressure spray to the surface of freshly placed concrete or mortar
  2. Hold the spray nozzle 30-50 cm from the surface, maintaining steady pressure for a fine even spray
  3. Ensure a continuous film is formed, maintaining coverage at 150-200 ml/m²
  4. Apply as soon as possible after concrete placement for maximum benefit

Important Notes

  • Ambient temperature must be above 5°C
  • On shuttered concrete, apply immediately after formwork is struck and any necessary repairs are completed
  • If the concrete surface is dry, dampen with clean water before application
  • Ensure complete coverage of the entire concrete surface to form a continuous film
  • Cementitious renders can be applied after 24 hours without affecting subsequent paint adhesion
  • Clean all tools and equipment with water immediately after use

FAQ

What is the difference between Monocure 50 and Optimix Curing Compound?

Both are water-based concrete curing membranes. Monocure 50 by Sika Ronacrete has a curing efficiency >75% (BS7542:1992) and is specifically formulated to allow overcoating with renders after 24 hours without affecting paint adhesion. Choice depends on project brand specification.

Can Monocure 50 be painted over?

Yes. Monocure 50 is specifically formulated to have no detrimental effect on the bond of subsequent paint finishes — one of the few curing membranes compatible with subsequent painting and coating works.

What is the coverage rate of Monocure 50?

Coverage is 150-200 ml per square metre, or approximately 5.0-6.5 square metres per litre. A continuous and complete film must be maintained across the entire surface.
