Documents
Sikagard®-705 L is a one-component, low viscosity, solvent-free transparent silane penetrating passive corrosion inhibitor / hydrophobic impregnation with 99% active ingredient content. Designed for reinforced concrete and cementitious substrates, it achieves penetration depth exceeding 10 mm (EN 1504-2 Class II), effectively reducing chloride ion ingress and reinforcement corrosion while maintaining vapour permeability. Consumption approx. 150 g/m² per coat, applied in 2–3 coats.
Product Overview
Sikagard®-705 L is a one-component, low viscosity, solvent-free transparent hydrophobic impregnation based on alkoxy silanes with 99% active ingredient content. The product complies with the highest requirements of EN 1504-2 for hydrophobic impregnation (penetration depth Class II, >10 mm) and provides resistance to freeze/thaw cycles and de-icing salt attack. Suitable for concrete structures exposed to severe environments, it penetrates deep into the substrate to form a lasting hydrophobic protective layer, effectively reducing capillary water absorption, chloride ion diffusion and reinforcement corrosion.

Why Choose Sikagard 705 L
Sikagard®-705 L, with its 99% active silane base, achieves penetration depths far exceeding standard hydrophobic products, making it the professional choice for protecting concrete structures in severe environments. Certified to multiple international standards (EN 1504-2 Class II, CE marked), it provides both hydrophobic protection and passive corrosion inhibition — effective even in cracked concrete. The solvent-free, ready-to-use formula greatly simplifies the application process.
Packaging
18 kg pail, 180 kg drum
Consumption Guide
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Consumption per coat | Approx. 150 g/m² |
| Recommended coats | 2–3 coats (depending on requirements) |
| Total consumption reference | Approx. 300–450 g/m² |
Actual consumption depends on substrate absorbency and required penetration depth. A preliminary test is recommended. For marine structures (e.g. jetties), a minimum penetration depth of 5 mm is recommended.

Important Notes
- Best results achieved on concrete aged 28 days; precast elements can be treated as early as 24 hours due to high alkali resistance (penetration depth may be reduced)
- Substrate moisture content must be below 5–6%, surface dry with no damp patches
- Cannot be overcoated with limewash or cement paint
- May damage some coatings and bituminous products
- Application on damp concrete may cause surface darkening — test on a sample area first
- Unpainted window frames and similar elements must be covered and protected from contact
- Cracks wider than 750 μm must be repaired first; cracks 300–750 μm can be treated with increased consumption
FAQ
What is the difference between Sikagard 705 L and Sikagard 703 W?
Sikagard®-705 L is a 99% active silane, solvent-free formula with penetration depth exceeding 10 mm, providing both hydrophobic and passive corrosion inhibition functions — suitable for reinforced concrete in severe environments. Sikagard®-703 W is a silane/siloxane emulsion product primarily for general facade waterproofing. The two serve different purposes; 705 L is for structural applications requiring deep protection and corrosion inhibition.
What is the consumption rate for Sikagard 705 L?
Approximately 150 g/m² per coat, typically applied in 2–3 coats for a total consumption of about 300–450 g/m². Actual consumption depends on substrate absorbency and required penetration depth. A small-area trial is recommended.
Can Sikagard 705 L be used on marine structures?
Yes. Sikagard®-705 L provides excellent resistance to seawater chloride ion ingress and is suitable for marine structures such as jetties and breakwaters. For marine structures and AAR mitigation, a minimum penetration depth of 5 mm is recommended.
