Application Method
- Surface Preparation — Concrete surfaces must be clean, sound, and free from oil, grease, laitance, and loose particles. Metal surfaces must be free from scale, rust, oil, and grease. Absorbent surfaces must be pre-wetted but free of standing water at time of application
- Mixing — Pour 70–80% of pre-measured water into a clean container, gradually add the entire 25 kg bag while continuously mixing, then add remaining water to desired consistency. Mix with a low speed drill (max 500 rpm) for 2–3 minutes until uniform. Rest for 1–2 minutes, then remix for 1–2 minutes
- Application — After mixing, stir lightly with a spatula to release entrapped air, then pour immediately into prepared formwork. Maintain continuous uninterrupted flow with sufficient pressure head
- Important — Maximum thickness per pour is 100 mm. For sections exceeding 100 mm, mix with graded 10 mm silt-free aggregates (ratio not exceeding 1:1 by weight) to minimize heat of hydration during curing
Important Notes
- Minimum application thickness 10 mm, maximum 100 mm per pour; up to 500 mm with aggregates
- At temperatures below 20°C, setting time and strength development will be slower
- Non-shrink property is effective only if the material is not subjected to water loss — proper curing is essential
- Protect from direct sunlight and frost during storage
- For large pours exceeding 100 mm, consider using chilled water and formwork insulation measures
- Provide breather holes to allow entrapped air to escape during grouting
FAQ
What is the difference between SikaGrout 214 and non-shrink grout?
"Non-shrink grout" is the generic term for shrinkage-compensated cementitious grouting materials. SikaGrout 214 (also called Sika 214) is a specific non-shrink grout product manufactured by Sika Switzerland. It is PCCS-RM certified by the Hong Kong Concrete Institute, with 28-day compressive strength exceeding 60 MPa and zero bleeding, suitable for precision grouting in demanding applications.
SikaGrout 214 vs Conbextra GP — which is better?
SikaGrout 214 and Fosroc Conbextra GP are both widely used non-shrink grout products. SikaGrout 214 offers excellent flowability with a 2-hour pot life, making it ideal for large-area continuous grouting. Conbextra GP uses a gas expansion system with rapid early strength development. Both are accepted by Hong Kong Housing Authority and Architectural Services Department. The choice depends on project requirements and site conditions.
How to use SikaGrout 214?
Add approximately 5 litres of clean water per 25 kg bag (for flowable consistency). Mix with a low speed drill (max 500 rpm) for 2–3 minutes until uniform. Consistency can be adjusted — flowable for pouring and pumping, trowelable for hand packing. Ensure substrate is clean, saturated but free of standing water before application.
What projects is SikaGrout 214 suitable for?
Suitable for machine foundation grouting, precast column joints, bridge bearings, concrete anchoring, and filling cavities. Widely used in Hong Kong Housing Authority, Architectural Services Department, and private developer construction and repair projects. Application thickness ranges from 10–100 mm per pour, up to 500 mm with graded aggregates.
