Sikalastic-560 — Economical Liquid Applied Roof Waterproofing Membrane

Sikalastic®-560 is a one-component, cold-applied, waterborne liquid applied waterproofing membrane. The chemical base is polyurethane modified acrylic dispersion. It is ready to use — no heating or flame required. When applied, it forms a seamless, highly elastic and UV resistant waterproofing membrane. The product is water vapour permeable, allowing the substrate to breathe. It is suitable for roof waterproofing in both new construction and refurbishment projects, particularly for roofs with complex geometry or limited accessibility.

  • One-component, ready to use — no mixing required
  • Cold applied — requires no heat or flame
  • Seamless waterproofing membrane — no joints or laps
  • UV resistant and UV stable
  • Highly elastic and crack-bridging (~350% elongation at break)
  • Easily recoated when needed — no stripping required
  • Economic — cost efficient life cycle extension for failing roofs
  • Low VOC emitting water-based coating (VOC < 50 g/l)
  • Excellent adhesion on porous and non-porous substrates
  • Water vapour permeable — allows the substrate to breathe
  • 18 months shelf life

Applications

  • Roof waterproofing — liquid applied waterproofing for new construction and refurbishment projects
  • Complex roofs — roofs with many details, complex geometry or limited accessibility

Consumption

System Consumption Dry Film Thickness
Roof coating (2–3 coats, unreinforced) ≥ 0.9–1.4 kg/m² (≥ 0.6–1.0 l/m²) ≥ 0.3–0.5 mm
Reinforced system — base coat ≥ 1.0–1.5 kg/m² (≥ 0.75–1.1 l/m²)
Reinforced system — top coats (1–2 coats) ≥ 1.1–1.3 kg/m² (≥ 0.80–0.95 l/m²)

Do not apply more than 0.75 kg/m² per coat for layers without reinforcement. Figures are theoretical and do not include additional material for surface porosity, profile, variations in level and wastage.

Waiting time between coats: approx. 6 hours (+20°C) / approx. 4 hours (+30°C). After Sikalastic® Fleece reinforcement: 24 hours waiting time.

Important Notes

  • Do not apply on substrates with rising moisture
  • Not suitable for permanent water immersion
  • Substrate moisture content must not exceed 6% by weight — substrate must be visibly dry with no standing water
  • Application temperature must be +8°C to +35°C — temperature must not drop below 8°C and humidity must not exceed 80% r.h. until fully cured
  • Substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above dew point
  • Application during rising ambient and substrate temperatures may cause "pin holing" from rising air (outgassing)
  • Do not apply directly on insulation boards — use Sikalastic® Carrier as a separation layer
  • Not for roofs subject to long-term ponding water; in cold climates, roofing structures with pitch less than 3% must consider ponding water freezing
  • Areas with high movement, irregular substrates or timber-based roof decks require a complete Sikalastic® Carrier layer
  • Roofs subject to freezing at service temperature around -10°C must be reinforced with Sikalastic® Fleece-80
  • Do not apply more than 0.75 kg/m² per coat for unreinforced layers
  • Clean all tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use

FAQ

How is Sikalastic-560 different from traditional bitumen waterproofing membranes?

Sikalastic-560 is a waterborne liquid membrane applied cold — no flame or heat required, forming a seamless membrane with no joints that could leak. Traditional bitumen sheet membranes require torch-on application and have lap joints that can deteriorate over time. Sikalastic-560 is particularly suited for complex roof geometries and refurbishment projects, as it can be applied directly over existing waterproofing.

Does the white Sikalastic-560 provide thermal insulation?

The white version achieves a solar reflectance of 0.82 and SRI of 102, effectively reflecting solar heat to reduce roof surface temperature and building cooling costs. It meets Energy Star initial solar reflectance requirements and LEED v2009 SSc 7.2 Heat Island Effect standards. However, it is a reflective coating, not thermal insulation — it reduces heat gain by reflection rather than insulation.

Can Sikalastic-560 be used for bathroom waterproofing?

Sikalastic-560 is designed specifically for roof waterproofing and is not suitable for permanent water immersion. For bathroom waterproofing, consider the Sika cementitious waterproofing range (e.g. SikaTop-300 Seal). Please WhatsApp us for the right solution.

What is the coverage of Sikalastic-560?

For roof coating (unreinforced, 2–3 coats): ≥ 0.9–1.4 kg/m² with dry film thickness ≥ 0.3–0.5 mm. A 20 kg pail covers approximately 14–22 m² (unreinforced system). The reinforced system requires additional material for the base coat and top coats. Actual coverage depends on substrate conditions.
