Summary:

SikaSet Waterplug (formerly MSeal 590) is a one-component, fast-setting cement-based water-stop repair mortar that instantly plugs leaks through cracks and holes in concrete or masonry. Sets in approximately 3-5 minutes with expansion to lock in place. 25 kg pail, 1-year shelf life.

SikaSet Waterplug — Fast-Setting Water-Stop Mortar

SikaSet Waterplug (formerly MSeal 590) is a one-component, quick-setting, Portland-cement-based hydraulic repair mortar that instantly stops running water through holes or cracks in concrete or masonry. It expands as it sets to lock into place even under constant water pressure. The formula is non-metallic and non-gypsum with shrinkage compensation for long-term volume stability. Certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for potable water contact.

Key Features

  • Fast setting in approximately 3-5 minutes (at 21°C)
  • Expands on setting to lock in place for a tight seal
  • Single component — just add water
  • Non-metallic, non-gypsum, shrinkage compensated for volume stability
  • Fully hydraulic — suitable above or below water
  • Ready for topcoat in 15 minutes
  • NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certified for potable water contact
  • Cold weather formulation available for year-round use
  • 28-day compressive strength of 37.9 MPa

Typical Applications

  • Sealing static cracks and holes with running water or moisture seepage
  • Foundations, basements, retaining walls, sewers
  • Vertical, horizontal, and overhead surfaces
  • Anchoring vertical bolts and hardware
  • Sealing floor-to-wall junctions
  • Repairing leaking mortar joints in masonry
  • Patching holes and voids in concrete walls

Why Choose SikaSet Waterplug?

  • Rapid water-stop: Sets in 3-5 minutes for emergency leak sealing
  • Expansion lock: Actively expands during setting for a tight seal
  • Potable water certified: NSF/ANSI 61 certified for drinking water facilities
  • High strength: 28-day compressive strength of 37.9 MPa for lasting durability
  • Simple to use: Single component, just add water, no special tools needed

Important Notes

  • Do not apply to frozen or frost-covered surfaces
  • Do not use on dynamic (moving) cracks or expansion joints
  • Do not re-temper material that has begun to set
  • Maximum void fill per single lift: 490 cm³
  • Use square cut or undercut — avoid V-cuts
  • In hot weather (30-37°C), material sets very quickly; use ice water to slow setting
  • Do not apply when ambient or surface temperature is at or below 4°C
  • Keep damp for at least 15 minutes after placement

FAQ

How fast does SikaSet Waterplug set?

At normal temperature (approximately 21°C), SikaSet Waterplug sets in about 3-5 minutes. In hot conditions it sets even faster (as quick as 30 seconds). Use ice water to slow the reaction. Only mix enough material that can be placed within 3 minutes.

Can SikaSet Waterplug be used in drinking water facilities?

Yes. SikaSet Waterplug is certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for potable water contact, making it suitable for use in drinking water infrastructure.

Can it be top-coated after curing?

Yes. After initial set (approximately 15 minutes), SikaSet Waterplug can receive topcoats such as Sika Thoroseal or SikaTop Seal for additional waterproofing. Pre-formed waterproof sheet membranes can be applied after approximately 6-7 days of curing.
