Summary:

Nitoseal PU40 is a Fosroc single-component low-modulus polyurethane elastomeric building sealant, gun-applied. Suitable for sealing joints in concrete, brickwork, blockwork, precast panels, stone cladding, perimeter sealing around doors and windows, and non-trafficked floor joints. Adheres to most common building materials, primerless for most applications. UV resistant, fast curing, smooth non-slumping paste. Compliant with ISO 11600 (per manufacturer). Available in a range of colours.

Product Overview

Nitoseal PU40 is a one-part, low-modulus gun-grade elastomeric sealant based on polyurethane technology. Smooth, non-slumping paste that is easy to apply. Provides good movement accommodation for various building joints. Suitable for joints within a specified width range; moving joints should be designed to an optimum width-to-depth ratio to minimise stress on the sealant.

Features

  • Broad adhesion — bonds to most common building materials
  • Single component, fast cure — no mixing required, rapid cure rate
  • Easy to apply — smooth paste, gun-applied
  • UV resistant — suitable for long-term exterior exposure
  • Primerless for most applications — generally no primer needed
  • Colour range — available in multiple colours
  • International standards compliant — ISO 11600, ASTM C920 and others (per manufacturer)

Applications

  • Concrete structural joint sealing
  • Brickwork and blockwork joint sealing
  • Precast concrete panel joints
  • Stone cladding joints
  • Perimeter sealing around doors and windows
  • Non-trafficked floor joints

Application Guidelines

  • Surface preparation — joint surfaces must be clean, dry and frost-free; remove dirt, laitance, loose material and rust
  • Priming — generally not required; for high-movement or intermittently immersed joints, use Fosroc Primer 7 (porous) or Primer 4 (non-porous)
  • Backer rod — use polyethylene foam backer rod in expansion joints; use bond breaker tape in contraction joints
  • Application — gun sealant firmly into joint and tool flush shortly after application
  • Finishing — mask joint edges before sealing for neat finish lines

Packaging

  • 600 ml sachets (10 per box)
  • 310 ml cartridges (subject to minimum order quantity)

Notes

  • Do not apply at low temperatures
  • Not suitable for water-immersed conditions (use Nitoseal MS600)
  • Not suitable for contact with bituminous materials
  • Not suitable for trafficked floor joints (use Nitoseal MS300)
  • May stain decorative stone (use Nitoseal MS100 for non-staining)
  • Not suitable for contact with solvents, oil or petrol
  • Colour change may occur on exterior exposure but does not affect physical properties
  • Shelf life: twelve months in original packaging in cool, dry conditions (per manufacturer)
  • For detailed application methods, coverage rates and technical parameters, refer to the official product data sheet

FAQ

How does PU40 differ from the MS sealant series?

PU40 is a polyurethane (PU) sealant suited for general building joint sealing, primerless for most applications. The MS series are modified silicone sealants with specific strengths: MS600 for water-immersed conditions, MS300 for trafficked floor joints, MS100 for non-staining applications on stone. Select the appropriate product based on your requirements.

Is a primer required?

Most general applications do not require a primer. However, for high-movement joints or joints intermittently immersed in water, a primer is recommended for reliable adhesion. Use Fosroc Primer 7 for porous substrates and Primer 4 for non-porous substrates.
